Q and A: Can't you just adjust it?

We often get asked to adjust a 2nd stage that is freeflowing. "It just needs tighteneing up."
The 2nd stage and the first stage function as a unit. Aside from providing you air to breathe, the 2nd stage also acts as a safety valve. When the first stage fails it will increase the pressure in the hoses to the bursting point. to prevent this, the second stage is designed to leak off the excess pressure before the hose blows (right next to your face).
Until we can fully test the unit we cannot tell you if it is a simple adjustment of the 2nd stage or a failure of the first stage. Since this is Life Support equipment we will not work on it unless we can perform and necessary repairs to bring it to factory specifications. The liability we would incur by "just tightening it up" is unacceptable.
If you have a problem please feel free to bring your regulator into the store so we can determine what service is required for safety.
