2002, Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea

Diving Down Under
In 2002 Diving Enterprises booked one of our most memorable trips...2 weeks down under. One week diving the Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Sea aboard Mike Ball's Spoilsport. A second week one land being tourists visiting Townsville, white water rafting on the Tully River, Visiting the Lava Tubes in Undara, a suspected cable car into a beautiful rain forest and a train ride back.
The diving was spectacular and often challenging with stiff currents, surge that often moved you 5 to 10 feet every few seconds, and sometimes choppy seas. A 100 foot boat looks smaller and smaller as the waves get larger and larger. It was a great trip, the land portion at least as enjoyable as the diving. The underwater video gives a good idea of the variety of life, but the color quality is a bit poor - our videographer's equipment was a bit dated (VHS tape). Who can forget the first time you see the Southern Cross, or a Kookaburra that steals your breakfast. |
