Open Water Diver - How It Works

Learn your way with the PADI Open Water Scuba Diver course from Diving Enterprises, Ltd. PADI is the world’s largest training agency and really is “the way the world learns to dive.” With over 130,000 professional members and more than 6,000 PADI facilities you know you can go anywhere in the world and find PADI. The Open Water Scuba Diver course is the most popular way to learn scuba in the world. You’ll open a new world of adventure and fun after completing this course.

The Fun Part
Throughout the course, you'll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water (ocean, river, or lake) dives. Each pool session will give you an opportunity to learn the skills and techniques of diving. You will complete the Knowledge Development sessions at home on your own schedule. Then you’ll come to the store to do a review of the covered material. Since this is Independent Study, you can do your reviews when most convenient for you. If you need more information about any particular subject you can come in, call, text, or email an instructor to help you complete your learning.

Weekend Classes: $250.00 per person
Weekend classes start with a classroom session Friday evening from 6:30pm to 10:00pm. Then you return Saturday morning at 9:00 am to the store. You’ll finish your classwork, be taken on a tour of the store, be introduced to the various types of equipment and have time to talk with the instructor about SCUBA. You'll be assigned your Scuba equipnment and then you'll go to the pool to begin your in-water training. You'll be at the pool until about 6:00 pm. On Sunday you return to the pool at 9:00 am where you will finish your in-water training. Of course, we’ll give you a lunch break each day.  Around 4:00 pm you will leave the pool to return to the store to check in equipment and complete your logbooks.

Weeknight Classes: As little as $250.00 per person
Currently we have not had enough interest to hold weeknight classes.  We can arrange for groups to do weeknight classes if you and some friends find that meets your needs best.  for single divers we can always do private classes.
Typically, weeknight classes are held twice a week for 3 weeks (6 sessions). Each session runs from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. The first night is the orientation and equipment introduction. The following sessions are divided between classwork and the pool.  On class nights you'll meet at the store, pool nights will begin at the pool.
If you have a group of 4 or more we'll do a weeknight class at regular pricing.

Private Classes:
Private classes can be arranged to fit your personalized schedule. While there is an extra charge for private classes you can lower the cost per person by getting together your own group.  If you get a group of 5 or more you can get private classes at regular group prices. We can do weekdays, weekends, nights, or any combination you want. You can even more the sessions around to meet a flexible schedule.

Open Water Training Dives:
Once all Confined Water sessions and the Knowledge Development is completed it is time for the certification dives. These are usually held shortly after the pool sessions.  If the scheduled dive dates are not convenient for you, you can pick a different date from our list of dive trip dates.  You can even split your dives over two different trips..

Certification dives are done locally between late April and mid-November. In addition to the local rivers and quarries we offer trips to locations such as Florida, the Caribbean, North Carolina, Belize, The Bahamas, Bonaire, Fiji, and more. Your certification dives can be completed on almost any of these trips if you prefer.

Have a trip already scheduled?
If you don't have time to get your dives done with us, you can get a referral and any PADI Instructor in the world can complete your training. Since PADI is the largest training agency in the world, there is always a PADI facility or instructor nearby.

How long will it take?
PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you. You can choose to do traditional training using books and video or online eLearning through PADI.

How do I sign up?
